Tensions rise at Emory University as pro-Palestine protesters clash with police, leading to 28 arrests. 

Emory University became a scene of conflict as pro-Palestine demonstrators and opponents of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center clashed with law enforcement, resulting in 28 arrests.

The protests began with activists setting up an encampment on the Emory quad, demanding the university divest from Israel and halt the construction of the controversial police training facility known as "Cop City." The demonstration mirrored similar protests occurring across the nation, highlighting growing solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

Tensions escalated as Atlanta Police Department, Emory Police, and Georgia State Patrol officers moved in to dismantle the encampment. Reports indicate the use of tear gas and tasers for crowd control, with some social media accounts alleging the use of pepper balls. Jewish Studies classes were moved online as the situation intensified.

Chants of “From the river to the sea, Palestine shall be free” and other anti-Israel slogans filled the air, met with counter-protests from the Jewish community. The scene grew chaotic as officers arrested individuals who resisted their orders, leading to emotional outbursts and further clashes.

Emory University officials confirmed that 20 of those arrested were members of the university community. The institution emphasized its commitment to upholding the law while expediting the release of detained students and faculty.

Meanwhile, Anat Sultan-Dadon, Consul General of Israel to the Southeast, condemned the wave of protests sweeping college campuses. She criticized the demonstrations for supporting Hamas and its "terror and genocidal goal," highlighting the intimidation and harassment faced by Jewish students across the United States.
